A motto and emblem steeped in history

THE SALAMANDER & OUR INNER FIRE AS GUIDES

The salamander, the royal emblem of François 1st, is accompanied by the motto

"Nutrisco & Extinguo" (I feed it and extinguish it), which can be interpreted as:

"I feed the good fire and I extinguish the bad".

Maison Chaput has adopted this emblem and motto as its own,

reflecting what drives us in the vineyard and in the cellar:

"May your pleasure in tasting our champagnes be equal to the pleasure we have had in revealing them".

HISTORY OF THE CHAPUT HOUSE

Champagne has a long tradition of winegrowing, dating back to Roman times. It was they who planted the first vines. The Champagne vineyards were then maintained thanks to the attention paid to them by the clergy. For eight generations, the Chaput family has always had at least one active winegrower: Juste Chaput, a winegrower from Fravaux, born in 1736.

In the 1950s, Jacques Chaput played an active role in re-establishing vineyards in Arrentières, where Benedictine monks had already been growing vines in the 12th century.

Now run by his son Jacky and grandson Jason, the estate comprises 14 hectares of vines, mainly planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

OUR TERROIR

Arrentières is a village on the Côte des Bar, on the right bank of the river Aube which gives its name to our department. This small area of the Barsuraubois is distinguished by its very specific terroir, which gives its Champagne wines unrivalled fruitiness and freshness.

Between the deep plains and the steep hillsides, the succession of plateaux and valleys is essentially made up of marl, limestone and clay dating from the Kimmeridgian period. These terroirs are like pieces of a puzzle with multiple exposures, where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay draw freshness and vivacity, giving the wines a unique character and minerality.

OUR WINES

The quality and consistency of our cuvées come from a combination of rigorous selection in the vineyard, the unique characteristics of our grape varieties, and our reserve wines.

Our cuvées are therefore the fruit of a happy marriage: a vineyard that we nurture through the seasons, combined with careful ageing in the cellar and, of course, a little bit of our own talent.

The birth of our champagnes only becomes real through you: in your eyes, in the aromas revealed and in your palate fully expressed.

Let's share the good fire that drives us.
